PADS Viewer - FAQs

Can PADS be used to drive an LED display?

Yes, PADS can be used to drive LED displays that natively support VGA as well as LED displays that must be controlled using custom, dedicated commands.

LED displays that natively or with special supplied software support VGA can directly be controlled by the standard PADS software without any adjustments.

Character based LED displays or ticker tapes in general use a specific protocol to control the display. With this the communication runs via RS232 or TCP/IP. Because this protocol can differ per manufacturer and LED display type it requires a custom interface to be developed to map information of the PADS system to specific commands and forward these to the LED display. This interface application can simply be developed with the PADS Software Development Kit (SDK). The PADS SDK is standard delivered together with PADS Professional.

Using PADS to control LED displays has major advantages. For instance with PADS you can simply centrally design and schedule your content and distribute it to all displays. One of the major advantages is that you can use the extensive database connectivity features of PADS to provide your LED display with real-time data.

Globally there are numberless projects for which the combination of PADS and LED displays has been put into practice with great success.
